On Tuesday and Friday this week, P6/7 took action for Global Goals 12 and 14!

On Tuesday, the pupils carried out a litter pick about half way round the lower level track in Craigmonie and Balmacaan Woodland, collecting over 1.5kg of litter! They paid particular attention to the streams.

The children continue to be very concerned about the amount and type of litter between the playpark and the high school, and its potential harm to living things (including young children, pets, animals, birds and insects.) They are determined to carry out a litter pick on this route for the remaining Fridays this term. Today they collected over 1kg of litter in this short stretch.

The pupils have been discussing the amount of litter at Urquhart Bay Wood and we hope to organise a class litter pick there soon.
We have been discussing how we can reduce, reuse and recycle more at school and at home.
- At school, we continue to reduce our plastic consumption by not laminating as many items.
- We have reused yogurt pots as plant pots and Miss Mullin uses old takeaway tubs to store all sorts of art materials. Old shirts are always welcome to use as painting aprons. Old newspapers (especially unstapled ones) are great for covering the tables for art.
- We have recycled old newspapers and magazines as well as any soap bottles that aren’t needed for reuse.
UNCRC Article 29: Children’s education should help them fully develop their personalities, talents and abilities. It should teach them to understand their own rights, and to respect other people’s rights, cultures and differences. It should help them to live peacefully and protect the environment.
